For me, everything on Norderney revolves around plastic waste.
How is the beach cleaned? Does waste management work differently on an island? How does the garbage get off the island? How do rangers deal with pollution? And what knowledge does the local Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal and Nature Conservation gather about microplastics?
I spent six hours on Norderney collecting rubbish. At the rinsing area, on the dunes and directly on the beach. Every part, no matter how small, I photographed on the spot before collecting it. In the end, I had 778 photos ... and 12.6 kilos of plastic waste.
